A Season to Remember

Reminiscing on Beautiful Fall Weather & Recapping the 2023 Golf Events

The golf season seems to be winding down a bit. We have had some unbelievable fall weather, perhaps the best we could ever hope for. The golf course is in great shape, and the fall colors are beautiful. With all the golf being played, you can imagine there were some great shots, and there have been! We have had three "Aces" scored since the last Crier article! Congratulations to Kathleen Lewis, who scored a hole-in-one on September 26 on #7. Kathleen holed a 9-wood for her ace. Three days later, Andy Haws holed out a 6-iron on #11. Then, on October 17, Robin Price holed a 9-iron on #7 for his ace, his second over the past two golf seasons. These three will join the other "Ace Makers" in 2023 for the annual Ace Party on November 5. Those other ace makers include Florian Geissler, Michael Sale, Patrick Mahoney, Eric Bjorkman, Anita Bokan, Rhys Harris, Blake Napier, Jeff Miller, Dan Meltzer, Dan Bridger, and Mike Saunders, who have all scored a hole-in-one at Crane Creek this year. They will all be recognized at the annual Ace Party. If you haven't signed up to attend, do so by November 1!

Congratulations to the Boise High Boys Team for winning the state high school championship played at Lewiston Country Club in October. Crane Creek juniors Reid Piron, Reid Hoppock, Jack Bureau, and Luke Soltau were four of the five members of that team. Reid Piron fired a final round 66 to tie for the individual title but ended second after an intense five-hole playof. The Boise High Girls Team, which included three Crane Creek juniors, finished third. The team was led by Kelly Goulet's third-place individual finish, including Ali Churchman and Karina Bjorkman. Congratulations to all our Crane Creek juniors for their exemplary performance at the state high school championship, including Luke Drescher, who competed for Timberline High School.

Congratulations to our Ladies Tri-Club team for their fine play in the annual Tri-Club Event. This year marked the 60th edition of this competition between ladies from Crane Creek, Hillcrest, and the River Club. Hillcrest won this year's event by three strokes over the River Club, but the Crane Creek team fought hard! Congratulations to Denise Smith and her team of Sally Darmody, Toni Roberts, Joann Spence, Anne Istafanous, Amy Hutchinson, Jody Mallane, Aunick Lund, Anita Bokan, Barb Mossman, Nina Dickman, and Denise Smith. Congratulations Ladies!

Crane Creek hosted the annual Cup Matches vs. Hillcrest on September 30. While all matches were very close, Hillcrest prevailed by a score of 23 to 13. Congratulations to Crane Creek Captain James Beckmann and all of the team members who played very well – Lance Hendricks, Andy Haws, Jason Spillman, Carey McNeal, Eri Crum, Bryan Lawley, John Drescher, Brooks Kochvar, Travis Cutter, and Mike Hardesty.

Congratulations to the Crane Creek Cup Champions for 2023 –John Drescher (gross) and Chet Stephens (net). These two battled it out with the other 21 qualifiers who made it into the year-end event by accumulating points in events throughout the season. Congratulations, John and Chet, and to Lance Hendricks, for leading the season-long points race to qualify.

The Four C's Fall Classic was contested over a warm, sunny weekend in October. This year's event had a great field of 48 teams playing a best-ball format. Congratulations to the flight champions:
Lance Hendricks & James Beckmann (Augusta Flight Gross Champions), John Drescher & Kenny Jeon (Augusta Flight Net Champions), Patrick Mahoney & Connor Mahoney (Valhalla Flight Gross Champions), John Hardesty & Jared Smith (Valhalla Flight Net Champions), Karl Undesser & Mark Spalding (Pinehurst Flight Gross Champions), Tim Collias & Craig Grunig (Pinehurst Flight Net Champions) Terry Volbert & Tom Cardin (Royal Troon Flight Gross Champions), and Shaun Kirkman & Leon Berman (Royal Troon Flight Net Champions).

I want to congratulate our most improved players for 2023. John Chalfant was our Men's Most Improved player. The LGA awarded the Ladies Most Improved player award to Catharine Chopp. Congratulations!

We are planning the annual Holiday Golf Sale for the weekend of November 18 and 19 in the banquet rooms in the clubhouse (not enough room in the trailer!!). As usual, there will be great bargains with men's and women's apparel, golf balls, and golf gloves on sale. Unfortunately, there won't be any golf shoes or golf bags, as we sold those before we moved to the trailer. Hours for the sale are 9am to 3pm Saturday the 18th and 9am to 2pm Sunday the 19th. Remember that we have new products in the golf trailer and will continue to bring in fresh merchandise through the next golf season. So don't shy away from the trailer! Come in and see the new merchandise!

Posting scores for handicap purposes is approaching an end. The final day to record scores played in Idaho is November 14. Rounds played in Idaho November 15-February 28 cannot be recorded to the golfer's handicap. Please remember that if you travel south for the winter (California, Arizona, Florida), all those rounds must be posted to your handicap. Please let me know if you have any questions!

The golf season has concluded (event wise), and I want to thank all of you who competed in our various events throughout the season. We had a lot of events during the six-month season, and I appreciate all of you who competed.

Have a great fall, and take advantage of the last few weeks of the golf season!
