Ron's Crier Article February 2024

Cheers to Excellence

Luke Sestero's Award and Ron's Big Announcement

I want to start this month's article by congratulating Luke Sestero. Luke was recently named the recipient of the Rocky Mountain Section PGA Player Development Award for 2023. This award recognizes a PGA member for their extraordinary contributions and achievements in Player Development. Luke has shown his commitment to the Rocky Mountain Section and, specifically, to Crane Creek Country Club in this area. Luke has promoted player development through his extensive teaching schedule, including many junior programs, clinics for beginning adults, fitness analysis, full-game assessments, ladies' clinics, and, of course, individual lessons.

Luke has been instrumental in growing the player development program over the past ten years at Crane Creek. This is Luke's fourth Section Award, having previously been honored twice as the Assistant Professional of the Year and once as the Youth Player Development Award winner. Please join me in congratulating Luke on this award. Luke will now be nominated for the PGA National Award for Player Development. Congratulations Luke!

Pam and I will be returning soon from spending time in Florida. I played in a few golf tournaments, spent time with family, saw some golf professional friends, and attended the PGA Merchandise Show. It was a great chance to take advantage of some downtime, and I am returning ready to jump headfirst into the 2024 golf season!

While I have been away, Luke, Aaron, and Jesse have held down the fort, including dealing with one of our cart storage tents collapsing from the heavy snowfall. Luckily, there was not much damage to the carts. Many of our members have been taking advantage of the TrackMan simulators, which will be operating through February 29th.

The PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando was a huge affair. Pam and I were able to get a lot of business accomplished. Luke joined Pam and I as we reviewed lines for the season, worked on a merchandise plan for "the trailer," and met with potential designers for the new golf shop coming in early 2025! It was a very productive show.

The 2024 Golf Calendar has been approved and is included in this Crier.
Here are some dates to save for some of our early-season events:

March 22nd Men's Spring League Signup
April 2nd Ladies Spring League Signup
April 9th LGA Opening Day
April 13th Men's Spring Opener
April 25th Men's Spring League Starts
May 8th Ladies Spring League Starts
June 20-21-22 Men's Canyon Classic
July 12-13 Ladies Invitational

These are just a few early-season events. Look for the entire golf calendar in this Crier.

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome our new golf course superintendent Ryan Barker. Ryan brings extensive experience and knowledge to Crane Creek, and I look forward to working with him. Congratulations to Tom DeGrandi on his retirement. I thank him for his support over the years and wish him the best in this next phase of his life.

The 2024 golf season will be my twenty-first, and my final season. I will be retiring from my position as Head Golf Professional at Crane Creek at the end of the year. It has been a wonderful ride, and I am thankful to all the members and staff for making this a great experience. Crane Creek has had two golf professionals in the past 50-ish years (Stoney Brown was the Head Professional for 28 years before me). This says a lot about the membership and the support of their head golf professional. Thank you all!!!

As the 2024 golf season rapidly approaches, it is time to start thinking of getting into golf shape. Start swinging a club, stretching, and be sure to get out and walk, keep up those winter workouts, and mostly – THINK GOLF!! In the March Crier, we will introduce the instruction program for 2024, including group classes, lesson packages, and other opportunities for you to improve your game. Crane Creek has seen much golf played over the past four years.
Let's keep the golf craze going - MAKE GOLF YOUR THING!

Hoping for an early spring!
Ron Rawls
